Laurie Hendricks, M.F.A., is a California Plein Air painter, with origins from San Francisco and the Bay Area. She first moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and after some success in this field, turned her focus to painting full time once her two daughters were born. From New England roots, she is a direct descendent of painter John Trumbull, best known for The Signing of the Declaration of Independence and other depictions of the American Revolution. Growing up Berkeley, California, surrounded by painters, potters, and the natural beauty, she was familiar with the artistic tradition, which continues to inspire her landscape work.
Since earning her Master of Fine Arts degree at the San Francisco Art Institute, she has continued to study painting, drawing and art history, viewing art as life long learning. Her teachers include Joseph Mendez, Corinne Hartley and Jove Wang. Additional teachers she has been fortunate to study with include Ray Roberts, John Budicin, Peggy Kroll-Roberts, Glenn Dean and others. Hendricks is a colorist who returns to nature for her subjects of women and children, floral, still life, and Plein Air landscapes. She is an Artist Member of the California Art Club and recently won An Award of Excellence from the American Impressionist Society at their Small Works Showcase for her painting, “Sunlit Garden”. Her paintings hang in many private collections nationwide and internationally. Her Plein Air painting, “Malibu Oaks” hangs in the permanent collection of the Desert Art Museum in Palm Springs, California.
A member of the California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters, Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society, Hendricks is well known for her California landscapes, impressionist portraits of children, as well as work derived from her travels.
Currently, Hendricks owns her own gallery in South Pasadena, CA where her plein air and studio work is on display alongside several other artists including Kevin Macpherson and Leon Loughridge. She spends much of the year traveling to painting locations and participating in plein air events such as Sonoma County, Cambria and Carmel CA. She will be teaching three workshops in France and England in 2017.
